Frequently asked questions
How does “compress to a target size” work?
The tool re-encodes your image many times: it searches quality levels from high to low, and if even the lowest quality is still too big, it steps the resolution down and searches again. You always get the best possible quality under your limit.
Why did the tool also reduce the resolution?
Some targets are impossible at full resolution — for example 20 KB for a 6000 px photo. In that case the tool shrinks the dimensions step by step until the target is reachable, which is exactly what form uploads expect.
JPEG or WebP — which should I choose?
JPEG opens literally everywhere and is accepted by every upload form. WebP is usually 25–35 % smaller at the same quality, so choose it for websites.
Are my images uploaded?
Never. Compression happens in your browser, so private photos, IDs and documents stay on your device.
What is the smallest size I can reach?
A typical photo can reach 20–50 KB at ~1000 px wide. Below that, visible artefacts appear — the tool will tell you the smallest size it could reach.
